Overseas Project
Responding positively to the "Going Global" and "One Belt, One Road" national strategy, SMDERI has innovated thinking mode and integrated related advantages of industry and China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. Under the support of relevant state ministries, SMDERI is now vigorously strengthening cooperation with financial institutions and developing international markets by adopting different business models including Equipment supply, System integration and EPC project general contracting + financing services + operation and maintenance. So far SMDERI has completed or is about to complete the Pakistan Fatima 2×60MW Co-generation Power Plant, Huaneng Pakistan EPC Coal Terminal Conversion Project and Eritrea HIRGIGO 2×23MW Power Plant Expansion Project.

Pakistan Fatima 2×60MW Co-generation Power Plant
FATIMA Bagasse Power Plant Project in Pakistan is the world's largest and most energy-efficient biomass power plant with a total installed capacity of 2×60MW, while it uses bagasse and coal dual fuel - sugarcane bagasse in the crop season and coal in the non-crop. Simultaneously it makes a solution to the problem of the sugar mill wasted recycling and electricity and steam demand for production, but also provides continuous, stable, clean and economical energy supply for the surrounding users, which makes its technical difficulty very high. SMDERI, as the EPC general contractor, took overall responsibility for the design, equipment procurement, shipping, customs clearance and transportation, civil and building construction, installation, commissioning, inspection acceptance, equipment training and warranty service.

After the completion of the project, the annual generating capacity will be 840 million kWh. SMDERI has been committed to make the project into brand engineering in the field of Pakistan's biomass power plant, establish a local and international projects benchmark and model and build up a good image of Chinese enterprises. The success of this project is a milestone that witnessed the friendship between the two countries and completed with good social benefits. The project is the good practice for "One Belt, One Road" national strategy and in response to China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation's international strategy. During the project construction, Mr. Abid Sher Ali, Minister of the State Ministry of Water and Hydropower of Pakistan, Mr. Sun Weidong, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Yu Boren, Consul General of the Consulate General in Lahore, Mr. Li Shaotong, Counselor of the Chinese Economic and Commercial Counselor in Pakistan, Ms. Ina Lepel, Ambassador of Germany to Pakistan visited the project site.

Huaneng Pakistan EPC Coal Terminal Conversion Project

After signing EPC contract with Huaneng Fuyun (Pakistan) Port & Shipping Co., Ltd., SMDERI has provided surveying, engineering, procurement of equipment and materials, civil and erection, channel dredging, temporary construction, security, commissioning, pilot operation, training, logistics, insurance and financing consulting services etc. for the specific terminals at Qasim Port for Huaneng Power Plant.

This project is a supporting part of a major project of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor – Huneng Shahiwal 2×660MW Coal Power Plant. After completion, this project can deliver 8 million tons of coal each year for Shahiwal Power Plant, resolving the problem of fuel delivering from the sea, which received high attention from both governments since its significance. The project is not only one of the most important parts of the power plant construction, but also coinciding with shipping industry that SMDERI is focusing on, which shows a good momentum of SMDERI “basing on the field of energy and diversified development in related professional sector”.

Eritrea HIRGIGO 2×23MW Power Plant Expansion Project
Eritrea HIRGIGO 2×23MW Power Plant Expansion Project is a double support project that was financed from Chinese financial institutions by Eritrean Ministry of Energy and Mines and SFECO under the authorization of Eritrean government. The project construction period was 24 months, starting in March 2015 and achieving commercial operation of two sets in March 2017.

SMDERI was responsible for diesel generators integrated supply, on-site installation and commissioning and auxiliary system design. Diesel engine was 12K60MC-S low-speed type with MAN license from Qingdao Haixi Marine Diesel Engine Co., Ltd and generator was TFW23047-40 type from Shanghai Electric Group Shanghai Motor Factory, both of which were new design products.
